Two years ago, a fire broke out at the 102-year-old carousel, leaving the structure and horses with heavy damage, putting the future of the famous ride into question. The carousel suffered water damage, as well as damage to the roof and other components; however, officials have been hopeful of reopening the ride by 2020.

The fire was reportedly caused by an electrical issue.

That process may be expedited, after Playland received a $450,000 from the state to repair the structure of the carousel. Insurance has covered the bulk of the rest of the cost. It has not been announced how much the entire restoration will cost, though it’s expected to be restored to its original design, according to CBS.

“This is going to be its original design, and brought back to its original splendor, frankly. It will look like a new building but will still be the historic building that is has been all these years,” of Westchester County Parks & Recreation Deputy Commissioner Peter Tartaglia told CBS. “This is going to be its original design, and brought back to its original splendor, frankly.
